MJ's Field Guide

Hey, is there a back up version of mushroom john's field guide with species identification? Or if not, is there an equally good source where one can see pictures of various psychoactive species and read about their defining characteristics?

MJ's guide was never that good to begin with. Read stuff here and elsewhere, you will find the info you seek.

You guys.... let's not get carried away. I will be the first to question his credibility, but this just seems gossipy.
I kinda miss the geezer.

He does know more about mushrooms than most. I mean nearly all of us. Hes been hunting magic mushrooms consistently for longer than i have been living.
He just doesn't like to deal with people it seems.
His sources and finds are quite substantial but yes, there are better sources of information out there than his guide. The shroomery archive has everything you need.

ya know, he could have just put a watermark on all his pics... put a copyright notice up, issued takedown notices for people using his pics...
oh, well. I never had a problem with the guy, but he did resist any attempts to help him get modern with his stuff.

Yes, I'm being a bit petty - but only because he was a major douchebag! And browsing his website made your eyes bleed if you were lucky implee. I once saw someone's head literally explode from the ridiculous psychedelic backgrounds, and text that was often nearly the same color as everything else on the screen.
I miss his knowledge too, but it was rare that he would share it, and his comments were becoming more and more questionable before he 'left' (cough cough).
Sorry, never got a chance to vent this all out.

He was afrade if he used high quality images people would just steal the images for themselves.. He said thats how he made money as an 'artist' with his shitty 'psychedelic' art aparently people would buy poster sized prints (or atleast high resolution copies of the pictures) The thing is your art and your photography reflect who you are as a person, if it looks like pixelation and low compression, then its shitty and horrible.
I tryed to help him understand that stumbleapon wasnt hijacking his stuff either, he refused my help pretty much. OLD PEOPLE GTF-OFF THE INTERNET
