So, I am looking for a new job, the thing is the employers all want to know if I have ever been
    #7424099 - 09/18/07 02:49 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

convicted of any crime other than minor traffic violations.

I hate this fucking question.

I have had two trafficking charges, along with numerous other misdemeanors expunged from my record.

recently, in the last three years I have plead guilty to lesser degrees of some pretty serious crimes, served time on a p.o violation. the p.o violation is a for a plead wherein parts of the arrangement was to withhold adjudication, This means it is only visible to the Judicial system, or so I am told.

So i usually put I have never been convicted of any crimes.

I really never get many calls back.

I am a good worker, fairly reliable with some good references. there are some pretty impressive gaps in my work history though. Sometimes I travel, sometimes i spends months in prison.

can anyone offer me some advice on how to deal with these conditions? I really want a new job.
Tanks, it would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone care to offer me advice on how I should go about handling these questions.  is it better to repsond with, yes, then explain or to just be like no?

How can I answer the questions regarding the months betwens jobs and stuff.  usually when I get a job I hold it down for quite ahwile, but when I d leave sometimes it is motnhs before I even go looking for another.  it seems most employers take unkindly to this.

I think your problem is expecting a return call.

It is you who should be placing a phone call to them.

YidakiMan is correct. 90% of jobs you have to call them and ask if they have taken a look at your application or whatever. The only jobs I have ever gotten hired without calling back was fast food places, where they actually hired me on the spot.

I'd mark no for those questions. I know almost every application says that they will do a background check but I'd say the majority of companies don't. I mean if you are getting hired for an upper level position they might but background checks are expensive I'd say for the average employee most companies aren't going to want to incur that expense.

that is usaully how I always end up with a job, I told this one guy I was going to keep coming back until he did one of two things, give me a job or take out a restraining order. To this day it was one of the best jobs I have ever had.

I'd mark no. Is this one of those online job applications with 34 pages of "Agree/Disagree" questions?

Yeah, I know someone who got the job for President of this company, and they did random background checks and found that he stole something (an album) in highschool. Even though it had been past 10 yrs he totally forgot about it and never removed it so he got fired. But then he started his own buisness anyway and got a better paying job so w/e

How were you able to get your records expunged?

You dont need a lawyer to get shit expunged, its just easier. You have to meet certain qualifications and pay a 65$ filing fee. But, its diff in every state. I always say ive never been arrested and i only got caught once cause of a new corporate policy at the company because it was a rental place with liability. They couldnt hire anyone with any kind of record, so if i had told the truth it wouldnt have mattered. Anyways, idk what kind of work you want, but no restaurant could operate if they ever did checks or tests.

I love this. I've been trying to get a job at Petsmart the last month or so. I call every other day or so and ask, "Have you looked at my application yet?" "No we've been too busy". I'm gonna go in tomorrow and ask him to tell me A) you got a job B) go fuck yourself c) leave before we call the police.

I had a similar problem. I didn't work at all in college until my senior year and then no one called me back because of my crappy work history, even though I worked 3 years in High School. I finally got a decent job.

How old are you?
