San Pedro accident + recovery

Hi everyone. A while back i caught my siamese kitten taking a bite (i kid you not) out of my tiny san pedro. I don't know how she managed this as the spikes were hard enough to hurt my hand a number of times. But it happened and it left the cactus with a small gap on top.
A few weeks later, a new sprout started to appear on the edge of the wound and look at the result

i know it looks like a grafting or something but i can assure you i have zero knowledge of procedures like that. Another odd thing is that this cactus is about 5 years old yet only 2 inches big, even though i put it in cactus soil. This 'add on' piece got this size in a matter of weeks, not months. Perhaps i should let my cat take another bite?

i would keep the little stump how it is, then when the pup gets 6 inches tall or so, cut it off, callous it, and plant it in its own pot, then repeat the process. If you cut it off, the stump will put out pups over and over, soon you will have plenty of cactus.

cakes have you ever seen a pedro seedling?? or are you basing all you info on 2 cuttings that you have that is not seedlings??
when smaller(seedlings) pedro do have spines , also the less light they get the bigger the spines are, IMO a lot of cacti look alike when they are small so it is hard to tell what you got until it gets bigger

Actually I haven't seen a pedro seedling. =0)
I didn't realize that was a seedling....it looked pretty big to me. But I guess not.
Thanks for the correction.

cakes and jeroen, you both need to repot your cacti, unless those ones of cake's were just potted. I repotted a two armed pedro and immediately noticed exponential growth in my grafts
