Dang Ice, you don't need to type out what you're saying IRL in real time. This is a family site.

“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

One could sit still in silence all day and not worry one bit about objective reality.

That's true, one could do that.

Quote:

Imagine meditation everyday for like 12 hours a day. Meditation and fasting for a week.

How will one become enlightened by the lack of food and lack of objective reality.

Can this be done? I'm sure it can but what do you think we'd get out of it

Meditation isn't a lack of objective reality. What you describe sounds like a form of escapism

Quote:

What are your views on meditation? Would one accomplish something by meditating like 12 hours a day and fasting?

Intelligent meditation means total awareness. Awareness of your mind: your thoughts, your emotions, your reactions, your ideas, your ideals, your desires and urges, etc. This requires a great deal of patience, loving-kindness, courage, and discipline. And what do you get out of true, intelligent meditation? Nothing. You get nothing you didn't already have.

Quote:

I think meditating 12 hours a day could defeat the experience of being alive

Ultimately, of course, life is just experience, and there is no better or worse experience or way of experiencing.

Sitting 12 hours per day in meditation doesn't sound like living to you, because it's not your life, nor is it mine. But it may be for some people, and for those people, all I can say is damn, that's impressive!

Quote:

No one to my knowledge has ever become enlightened by meditation.

Could you elaborate on this statement? What do you mean by "enlightened"? And do you mean that you don't know anyone personally, or that you've never heard of anyone, ever, becoming enlightened by meditation?
