i will be doing some quart rye jars here soon. one thing can i take the fully colonized jars and cut them like im going to case and place them in a fruit chamber or is it better to just leave them whole? also on personal experience how much have you yielded dry on a quart rye jar?

So you're talking about cakes made of rye? You're not spawning to bulk or anything?

How are you going to get it out of a quart jar intact?
I've fruited half-pints of WBS like a cake, though. Yield isn't great, but there you go. Slicing it might give a higher yield, but you'll only get one flush.

you could always grind up the rye berries and use them instead of BRF to make cakes.

You could make rye cakes with a pressure cooker. But you mentioned quart jars?
Edit- With widemouth jars, you can pop the colonized grain out in one nice block. No need to mess around with verm and whatnot. But you do need a PC.

You will get a much higher yeild by simply breaking up the grains via shaking, lining a pan with the spawn, and then casing with straight verm, coir/verm mix, Perfect Mix, etc.
IME, fruiting rye cakes is much less efficient than fruiting PF cakes, and actually barely does much of anything at all in regards to fruiting.

Good luck with fractional steam sterilization. Buy a PC. Trust me. They're the best investment you'll ever make with this hobby.

Doing grains without a PC is just asking for contamination.
