Brian Eno's older ambient works always carry me away from anything else that is going on. Ambient 4: On Land is probably my favorite, very powerful and beautiful music, great stuff for mushrooms IMO.

SOme bob marley or pre-1970's ska.
Maybe phish's tune "contact" or "picture of nectar" or "lawn boy" or some other funny phish tune.
Phish is a really good band for this purpose. Thats is if you have the right songs. There are live phish jams that could scare the shit out of you if you were already in a fragile state of mind. Id stick with one of their many great albums rather than their live stuff.
SOme bluesy dead would work too.
Van morrison is another really good idea. The album "Moondance" would be PERFECT. I think thats one of the best things I could come up with.

Definitely The Beatles. They always lighten up my mood, sober or tripping. Also, someone said Phish, which I totally agree with. Trey's voice is just so upbeat and happy it is hard not to smile when listening to them. The Grateful Deads more folky stuff, like off American Beauty or Working Mans Dead is good too. I find Box of Rain, Uncle John's Band and Sugar Magnolia to be comforting especially when things are starting to get rough.

yeah, i tend to think that really melodic songs that open up and bring you into them are perfect trip catchers...add to that the positive vibe of BT, the brothers or dead...and one is all right!

Anything that you have good memories or feelings tied to is a sure bet. You might enjoy a song, but if it brings back bad feelings of any kind, they'll be magnified during a trip.

Can't think of any songs that will be sure-fire, but "Comin' Back to Me" by Jefferson Airplane is an incredibly soothing, beautiful song - especially if you're on acid.

I was coming up into one of the most intense psychedelic experiences of my life and a friend had but on some kind of crazy Bela Fleck banjo madness for me, knowing that I play banjo and love the instrument. It was *way* too much for me. It really upset me and made me pretty worried--about what, I do not know. I was trying desperately to find another CD and figure out how to get the player to work. Finally I heard some really mellow 1960's wailers coming out, and it was smooth sailin from there on. Apparently I succeeded not only in finding a good CD, but putting it on.

The only time I ever had a bad trip I was too sketched the fuck out to do anything but run anyway from my thoughts.
Now I'm a much wiser person. I reckon if I was feeling really sketched (the only thing that ever sketched me out was the thought that I might get arrested for drug dealing / growing then seeing a squadron of police cars going down my road heh) trying to listen to a McKenna lecture ..or a lecture by another prominent psychonaut might calm me down.. As every time I hear or read something by one of them I feel inspired to take these drugs and delve deeper into my psyche.
I haven't tripped in a quite a long time.. but afoaf has cooked up some cakes, which are currently growing in his cupboard.. so we'll see

When i sketched last time my friend put Radiohead on - the Kid A album, my thoughts just froze and i was wondering around their music in an intense psychedelic tranquility... no language will describe that.
Brian Eno is very good as standing ground when you need it. Steve Reich - can get a bit intense but great nonetheless. Turtoise - quite strange but good.
The next time it gets too intense im going too get up, drink some water and then do the opposite of what i was doing.

Keep music on hand that normally puts you in a good mood. The stuff you listen to when you're down (and sober). What almost always positively alters my trip is a walk around my block. Just opening the door and stepping outside changes 'the scene' in my head.

I agree with Quake, a walk -always- helps. Though make sure you're not acting tooo suspiciously, though you should be fine (I'm sure we've all done much sketchier things, I sure have). The thing is, if I'm tripping and not feeling too good, I usually convince myself that if I go outside I -will- get caught and will get in really deep shit, so it's always nice to have a buddy to trip with, so that a) they can help you outta your funk and b) help you out the door ;-)

Happy Colored Marbles- Ween
Just skip the last part where it gets insane. the first time i heard this i was on 4g of shrooms and lsa and at first the deep voice scared me in the beggining but then i loved it and once the high voice comes in, its money "Happy colored marbles that are rolling in my head, i put em back in the jacket of the one i love love love love carry that velvet sack full of pretty colored marbles and i'll ask you for em back when im ready and done"

Shit im sorry i dont mean to spam, but i forgot about another one that sounds odd but trust me and try it next time your tripping. i was having a kinda depressing trip on some great mushies last year in the summer and im in the car with my friend and we're smoking a blunt. he realizes im not having a good time and says i got somethin that'll do the trick, and pops into his cd player Sleigh Ride by Johnny Mathis hahaha in a minute i was in the most jolly mood and laughing my ass off because it was summertime and we were driving around with a really loud, completely happy and jolly christmas tune rockin out of the speakers

African Herbsman-Bob Marley
Clementine-Laurel Aitken
Jimi Hendrix-Little Wing, Stone Free, Foxey Lady
The Doors-Love Her Madly
The Beatles-Strawberry Fields Forever, Here Comes the Sun
The Temptations-Im Gonna Make You Love Me, Cant Get Next to You
Benny Benassi: Satisfaction. I recommend watching the music video. It always cheers me up.
Those are songs that make me happy.

How about some Jamiroquai? Every album is good. I don't know if it's your style, but I think you will enjoy it. Very funky and natural. All real instruments, so its smooth during a trip.

Yeah, that's a great song, but there are so many others that are just as great. Anything from A Funk Odyssy will make you dance till your legs fall off.
