Basically, if you tried to inoculate larger amounts of substrate with just spores, contams would have a really long time to gain the upper hand while the spores are still germinating and, after they do, while the mycelium struggles to colonize the large amount of substrate.
By using colonized grain as a spawn, you're basically adding hundreds of little pieces of eager-to grow mycelium. There's no spores that need to germinate, the mycelium can get right to eating up the substrate and since eash one of those little pieces of mycelium is growing within the substrate, it reduces the amount of time it takes for the bulk substrate to colonize.
thats the best explanation of it Ive read

You need to step up to monotubs...
Get rid of those racks and let your field capacity substrate hold the moisture for the first flushes...
Fill that whole bin with substrate and grain spawn layers and prepare for domination! Take it to the next level!

Just break your WBS up into some pasteurized bulk substrate (that's all spawning is, really) like horse shit or coir and coffee. Case it, and let 'er rip!
