PF cakes were fun, but I'm a bulk guy from now on.
Who said Coir was no good?

That's what you do MAN !
The WBS is your spawn .....
The Coir / Coffee is you bulk substrate.

I spawned w/WBS. I used the Coir 'recipe' because ( at the time ) I couldn't find a source for hpoo. I've since found a source, but found the coir grow educational. It DOES work!
My newest grow is: 4 32oz containers of hpoo knocked up w/grated PF cakes. They've colonized beautifully. I just cased today with an 'experimental' casing mixture, of which, I will post the results later

Milkman,
You inoculate the spawn (sterilized WBS in this case) with multispore solution or LC ..... colonize it in jars or bags .... when fully colonized, 'spawn it' (mix it) with your bulk substrate (coir / coffee or horse poo) wait until that is colonized, then case it (I like 50/50+) and fasten your seat belt !
Read some more and you will figure it out. Then do it. Good luck.

Bulk grows are already susceptible to contams even when you spawn. Using spawn allows you to introduce strong, healthy mycelium to allow colonization to occur at a rate quick enough to establish a hold over the substrate before contams can set in.
Basically, if you tried to inoculate larger amounts of substrate with just spores, contams would have a really long time to gain the upper hand while the spores are still germinating and, after they do, while the mycelium struggles to colonize the large amount of substrate.
By using colonized grain as a spawn, you're basically adding hundreds of little pieces of eager-to grow mycelium. There's no spores that need to germinate, the mycelium can get right to eating up the substrate and since eash one of those little pieces of mycelium is growing within the substrate, it reduces the amount of time it takes for the bulk substrate to colonize.
