Need help wiring a 230v AC axial fan
    #7419693 - 09/17/07 01:08 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

the thread title says it all. i've got several of these fans http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/4WT33

230v AC
50/60 Hz
0.11 Amps
19 watts

so i've got 5 of them. just the fans, barebone, no wires or anything. I haven't the slightest clue on how to start wiring them. can someone give me some detailed instructions or point me in a direction where i can read up on it?

What country are you in? If in the US, this is going to be interesting...

err.. it is the US... i'm not the most knowledgeable in the ways of electrical stuff, and i didn't realize until after i had bought the fans that the US standard is 115v. Is there any way i can do this whatsoever?

Grab the hot leg off of two independent outlets.

i'm not exactly sure what grabbing the hot leg means, nor how to go about it... i apologize for my ignorance, but like i said, this isn't exactly my area of expertise.

Is that enough, or does he have to pull from each leg of the main? If he pulls off of two independent outlets, and if they are on the same line from the main, they will be in phase.

I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking when I made that post. You are right about that seuss.

Do you have any electric appliances in the house? You'll want access somewhere to both lines from mains.

No worries.  From your posts, you obviously know much more about power (electronics) than I do... I was starting to worry that I knew less than I thought I did.

i've concluded this is too much for me to handle... so i'll be getting rid of these fans and picking up first a stanley blower from home depot (so it can be returned if it doesn't work out), and if that doesn't work, then i'll just have to splurge on an inline.  Thanks for the help guys.

incidentally.. neither of you would be in the market for 5 230vAC 105 cfm fans, would you?  real cheap.
