using wax paper in monotubs?

I've heard of people putting it over the surface of the uncased substrate to keep humidity up while trying to initiate pinning... I've also heard people say it's a bad thing to do..
what's the deal with using wax paper in a monotub?
edit: I'm talking about WBS spawned to hpoo and a bit of coir

You want lots of air exchange during pinset initiation, so if your substrate is starting to dry out, or your humidity is less than 99%, a sheet of wax paper can help to hold a high humidity right at the surface of the substrate where it's most needed. RR

You should look up hyphae's pinning strategy. It diffuses light, while maintaining high humidity. No, I really don't understand how the FAE happens under the paper, but its consistently lauded results mean you should probably give it a try I keep forgetting to buy wax paper....

its optional but i wanna put it when i do my monotub that way it will colonize 100% then you can fruit, or add a casing layer if you want

RR how does the air exchange happen? I'd figure the concentrated CO2 would mass next to the substrate, trapped by the wax paper...

can pinning be triggered by FAE alone?

negative FAE is good, but not alone. you need 12/12 light exposure

If you use wax paper make sure to crumple it up first, then flatten it back out. The ridges created will help to circulate air under it.

This is more to increase the surface area of the paper and provide more nooks and crannies for any water to condense, helping to prevent it from beading off onto your pins.
Air exchange is up to you, however you manage to sustain a light breeze... fanning, shot-gun terrarium, automated blowers, etc.
As long as you're not forming a seal with the wax-paper against any edges, I don't see how it's going to greatly reduce the air-exchange.

i thought monotubs didnt need fanning, only pollyfil holes

I had some trouble with some uncased poo monotubs a while back, they all pinned on the bottom of the tubs because apparently I couldn't get the humidity right up top....
so in theory, it should work like a casing layer, albeit one that the myc never colonizes and is removable. it should create a more favorable microclimate on the surface of the substrate by trapping humidty closer in and it won't have any harmful effects, like a massive C02 buildup... right?
I am going to case the next tubs I do, but I'll probably leave one uncased and try this wax paper method if it sounds like I understand it correctly

you got bottom/side pinning probably due to light exposure on the substrate, cover it with foil or tape to prevent this again
