I don't know what's worse...that he died, or that he didn't finish book 12
Seuss, you were just talking about exactly this a few days ago!

Quote:
Wheel Of Time Author Robert Jordan Dies
Wheel Of Time Author Robert Jordan Dies Sad news from the world of fantasy literature. Robert Jordan, known best as the author of the “Wheel of Time” series of books, died on the afternoon of Sunday September 16th after more than a year battling cardiac amyloidosis. The news comes from a message left on the author’s blog.
The site says, “”It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain.” Funeral arrangements will be posted later on the blog, and for fans interesting in sending his family their best wishes, the comments section on Jordan’s there seems to be the place to do it.
Robert Jordan was a prominent voice in modern fantasy literature. The author’s massive Wheel of Time series has long been a top seller, and with his death he leaves the series’ twelfth book unfinished and his story painfully incomplete. It was the twelfth book which was supposed to end the series, finally finishing the story of Rand al’ Thor and his friends, a finale in the making since the publishing of the first WoT book “The Eye of the World” back in 1990.
As someone who’s read all eleven books, this hurts. Not just because now we’ll never know how 17 years worth of character development ends, but because Jordan seemed like a genuinely good person who loved what he was doing and loved his fans. Right now my thoughts are with his family and friends, but from now on whenever I look at his spot on my bookshelf it’ll always be to selfishly wonder what might have been.
RIP Robert

So his books are good?
My aunt bought me the first book (The Eye of the World - ?) but I never read it.

Man, I was so looking forward to that last book, too! Damn. The world is one less great author now. Now we'll never see how Rand would have handed out the beatings.
RIP Robert, Rand, and all of the rest of his amazing and many characters

Bummer.
It said he was working on the last book. Alot of times a writer will have drafts, it might be possible for someone to take it up and finish the series. But it just won't be the same.

Yeah, and he kept many notes on the subject of the last book...someone is bound to finish it off. It won't be the same as if he wrote it...but at least it'll be something.

I read the first 1-2. Good stuff but some amazingly thick reading.

I worry about the same thing with King's Dark Tower series. I started that series awhile back and didn't know it hadn't been finished. Boy was I mad!
I refuse to read the latest and will wait til the series is completed and just start all over again.

Am I understanding you correctly? You are celebrating his death and thankful that he didn't finish the series? I don't normally abuse my power, but over this, I think I will make an exception.

No doubt! His books have a million characters! I would find myself forgetting most of the side characters, because they wouldn't show up again for like 2 or 3 books and then there they are again. I would be like, "Who the hell is this guy? Am I supposed to know?". Any book that has an index should be respected. He was a great author, but I found the 10th book to be abit dull. I think it was called Winter's Heart. The best one in the series was The Great Hunt. That book had the best ending of just about any book that I have ever read.

OMFG. I wasted countless weeks reading wheel of time and now i wont know the end.
Ironic though that he dragged the series along for as long as possible to milk every cent out of our pockets only to die prematurely.
