today's hunt plus...

Well, I've been hunting a lot lately to say the least. Over the past month I have found many mushrooms, of many kinds. The next few days I'll be throwing a ton of pics on here, as I finally have all them ready. Let me start by saying I absolutely love hydnum repandum, and I've been finding a solid amount of them this fall. So here's todays hunt. hydnum repandum

These all came from the cluster in the last photo:

I don't at all believe in mushroom prejudice, but these are my favorite mushrooms to hunt for. It's a challenge finding them, but when you do it's damn rewarding. They taste pretty good too! And I've got pounds and pounds of them from the last month. woooo!
Here are some other pics from today's hunt!
Some type of cool stropharia that was fruiting like mad:

Naematoloma fasciculare:

Lycoperdon, possibly pyriforme:

I don't know, spores white:

Cortinarius, possibly alboviolaceus, or some other violet variety:

These were all found near a small drainage into a larger creek, in a forest of engleman spruce, subalpine fir, and to lesser extent, lodgepole pine.
Thanks! More tomorrow.

Thanks younikrawn
ToxicMan: Yeah, they are a cool, delicious species. I also found some hydnum imbricatum(hawks wing) the other day. They weren't nearly as good (had a bitter metallic taste), but are neat looking. I'm sure they are quite common in Colorado. Also, I was wondering if you find many hedgehogs down there. They seem to be pretty rare up here, unless you find just the right spot.

Me likes some hedgehogs too. THose look so delicious. I love how they always seem to be dirt free even with all those little spines. I am lucky to have one of those spots we know they will be. My records indicate they will be due real soon. Get your rain gear together PNWers, the hunt is ON!!

Hedgehogs are pretty variable on how common they are. This year I did pretty well with them.
We get Hawks Wings in huge numbers some years. It would be easy to fill a bushel basket. Be sure to watch for the bitter lookalikes. Even a bit of one in a pan will ruin them all.
Happy mushrooming!

Mostly things like Sarcodon scabrosum. They have a bluish to greenish stem base, but that can be missed with dirt sticking to the stem. The easiest way to separate the similar species is tasting. You'll know instantly if you have the wrong one.
Happy mushrooming!
