small fruits on coir

i have a bin with colonized coir mixed with coffee. its about 4-5 inches thick.. the bin is about 14x20 inches or so.
i had mixed the seemingly colonized coir to ensure the inside was colonized and then set it to fruit with two fish tank bubbler's running into a jar of water that then runs the humid air into the bin.
soo now i didn't case it or anything. .i never used to case my worm casting/straw mix and would get huge flushes with huge fruits. this bin has given me a few large fruits and many many tiny aborts. well i think they are going to abort.
what might have caused the small fruits? my humidity is high there's mycelium all over the stems. although thats never caused a problem before Ive been running the same tub setup for years.
could it be that i mixed up the mycelium which broke its network up. then fruited it so its kinda like fruiting many little tiny cakes? should i have cased the coir?
i dunno I'm frustrated about it. its like 10lbs of substrate yielding under an ounce!! lol.. oh also the strain is Malabar and this bin was twice the size i scooped out half of it and made small casings out of it cased with straight peat. they yielded great so whats the deal here?
thanks criddopher

what did you use? grains or brf? brf is probably the cause, these are mexican dutch kings and they were cased with coir. they never got bigger then this size

I think he means coir and coffee as a substrate. It's not just for casing layers.

but he'd still have to spawn the substrate with either grain or brf.
As for the question, how did he get the coffee in there? I imagine he mixed used grounds into the coir substrate before pasteurizing it.

ok. i put used coffee grains into the coir before i pasteurized.. i spawned a coir bin with millet. i then too about half the coir bin and made casings cased with peat. got great fruits off it. tiny casings too huge fruits very nice.
then i took the other half of the coir colonized by millet and used it as spawn for this coir bin. so i spawned this coir/coffee with coir/coffee and millet. this bin i used alot more coffee and buffered the ph with lime.
like i said this bin i didn't case with anything and i mixed the mycelium up then i fruited it without letting the bin sit to restore its mycelium network. i figured that it would all reconnect before it fruited anyways.
I'm around to clarify anymore if needed
thanks

Fruit size is more related to moisture content than anything else. It sounds like your uncased coir dried out. Also, the edges are the last part to colonize, so if it's colonized everywhere you can see, it's also colonized in the middle. Never stir up a fully colonized substrate. You can probably dunk that coir block and get a great second flush. RR

btw ive been doing this monotub type tech with wormcastings/straw for about 4 years now. but i see people with coir all the time getting good fruits..from what i understand you only get one flush really as opposed to multiple like you do with worm castings.. its just the castings are so hard to get anymore.

from what i understand is jeeter said is that if you want monsters in a monotub you gotta a 4-6 inch substrate for monsters

RR: yeah i was thinking that as well.. i mean with the duel bubblers its pretty much raining in there. i almost thaught that would keep the moisture well but when i checked the substrate seemed kinda dry..
if these small shrooms do alll abort like it looks like they are doing i intended on dunking the whole block then casing it with peat.

Dunk, but don't case after first flush. The mycelium has already gone from veg to fruiting mode.
I'd also make the substrate a tad thinner. Straw can benefit from a thick application, but cubes on manure and/or coir will do as well at 3" depth, as 5". RR
