Cannabis use by young offenders is up by 75 per cent in some areas and is fuelling a crime epidemic.
Two studies reveal that young offenders' use of the drug is "out of control".
A national survey of Youth Offending Teams indicates that two thirds of them have seen an increase in cannabis use of between 25 and 75 per cent since David Blunkett, the then Home Secretary, downgraded the drug to Class C in 2004.
Research at King's College London has shown that 25 per cent of young offenders in Sheffield have turned to crime to fund their habit.
This differs from previous Government research which said that "cannabis use was unlikely to motivate crime".
According to the Independent on Sunday, 50 out of 51 of the youth courts in England and Wales are so alarmed that they have written to Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, urging re-classification of cannabis back to Class B.

What the fuck? When was the last time here anyone ever got incredibly baked, and then went out and commited heinous acts of crime? Sorry but whenever i'm stoned, i like to sit back and chill or go appreciate life while on a nice drive or long walk.
I think they're just posting this kinda shitt and making reference to 'fuelling crime' so that marijuana can be re-classified as a more 'severe' type drug. Bullshit.

It's from the daily mail, and thus lies. Don't bother reading it. The daily mail never will post a factual article on cannabis ever, even when it's legal, and I can go into their offices and eat brownies* they'll ring the police, screaming that "A cannabis addict is going to kill us and blaspheme!"
My plan is to sit in their reception, quietly listen to classic fm, and make it apparent to anyone that I am baked, and I don't feel like committing crimes.
*I'd much rather smoke a joint of pure, fragrant bud, but with the smoking ban on tobacco, they could probably kick me out on a technicality.

There seems to be a concerted effort in the UK to scare their public over marijuana.
It is depressing to see as I can imagine a similar wave of propaganda in the US if we were ever to downgrade marijuana offenses.
Of course we are very far from that even happening.

It's just DailyMail. Nobody listens to them anyway.
The comments are always hilarious: "So called 'recreational' drugs should be TOTALLY banned, not just re-classified!" haha

I think you hit the nail on the head there. The British press seems to be on a an anti-pot crusade lately.

So even if its a class c drug, its still a crime to use. So aren't 100% of young offenders turning to crime for their habit?
Jokes aside, i wonder if this means that 25% of offenders just get two ounces, instead of a half. Then sell the rest and smoke the profit?

Cannabis has been given a shit wrap. Nothing they say about it is true. But I don't think kids under 18 should be using it, or any other psychedelic drugs. Im 25 years old and pot has a great effect on me. It gives me a positive attitude, and makes me less anxious. When I smoke a doobie im more interested in my school work. But when you 16-18... that might be a different story. Young pot heads don't do as well as old ones. The two worst things about cannabis are derived from it being illegal. 1 is getting fucking arrested for possession, and 2 having to hang around with drug dealers and sketchy people to find it, when everyone knows you should be able to grow your own supply in your back yard. Maybe some sanity will be returned to the debate when all the old cock suckers who don't want to admit they were wrong die off.
