ID Request...
    #7414599 - 09/15/07 09:17 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

Found these in bay area california in grass at a middle school.
I'm still waiting on the spore print, I'll update with that in an hour or so?
Stem is very thin and about 2 inches long.
Gills are attached and brown in color.
Diameter is about the size of a penny.
Can't think of a way to describe the scent =/

It got burned in the sun as it was around 75+ today.
Yes, they are tiny. One was smashed but still I'm desperate for anything so I still got it.

I'll be real impressed if you guys can ID them because they are so small and burnt but it's worth a shot.

You don't have to act like a 7 year old kid, just tell me what I did wrong. If you want to help out, HELP OUT! Tell me what characteristics I should describe better to get an ID.

I read the rules, I just figured from the pictures you could tell the length and diameter approximately. I apologize for not giving the necessary information, I hope my edit makes it a little better.

They are probably a black spored Panaeolus. Probably not active.

Thanks. Reminds me, before we trampled the field I saw what I'm 80% sure to be a panaeolus subb. but it was so small that I figured I'd just let the spores drop instead. The one that I picked I got later in the day once my friends had left, for all I know it could be the same one as I saw before except burnt from the sun.

Goes to show that they can grow from regular watering from sprinklers and some shade.

about 4 hours and you should be able to tell if it's black or not.if it's real dry it might not drop for you.:igor:

Yeah I'm not so sure it will. Oh well, if it doesn't I'll just eat it and see what happens. Even if it is active, it's so small I doubt there'll be any affect =/

You need 20+ pan foes to get a trip, sorry.

nothing will happen so it would be pointless to eat it.in truth the specimen is in such poor condition we can only speculate it being a subb or a foe and one cannot condone the consumption of said mushroom.

Well, they are either Panaeolus or Panaeolina... I think the first one, coon thinks the latter. They look inactive either way.

Please do not apply this same concern of waste concept to other wild mushrooms. There are quite a few poisonous- and some deadly poisonous mushrooms. In this case, there are no poisonous species of Panaeolus/panaeolina, but i am concerned that you will eat anything you pick.... Please do NOT do this, it ensures an early death.
