I Did It

I have mushroom growth! 12 cakes growing two different strains. I thought it would never happen. The jars were inoculated on 6-1-02 and 6-8-02 and the first three were birthed three weeks ago. I guess it was a bit early because the ones birthed a few days ago have mushrooms at the same stage of growth. But I?m just happy to have gotten this far!

This heart of mine, could never see what everybody knows but me.

Congratulations! Was this your first attempt or what? My first was a miserable failure, but I'm PC'ing a jar for my second attempt with new spores.

Congrats, Ripple. My cat messed up his whole first set of jars, and on the second try when he finally saw little pins forming on the casing, he just fell over and nearly cried.

It's a lot of worry and headache when you don't know if what you're doing is really going to work or not. My cat spent months researching this stuff before he ever got results. Not he tells me that it doesn't seem to hard after all.

WELL DONE!!!

I can see from posts on this forum, that my sucess with my first try is not all that common. I did 24 jars, messed up with not letting enough air in (Mistake #1) and they didn't colonize, so I popped more holes in the top of the jars, and they colonized fine. Then I cased a few that weren't colonized all the way, (mistake #2) but just got rid of the uncolonized bits and those flushed pretty well the first time. Though it was not a huge success, I would say that 3 oz of dry fruits isn't bad for a first run.

I am definitely learning from my mistakes.

i had success with my first, aside frim the fact i used 4oz jars instead of 8, so i got less from them.
