rhizomorphs or contam?
    #7413655 - 09/15/07 03:50 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

Someone help me out here. After a few flushes on my casings, there are these white (white as mycelium) hairs growing on the bases of most of my mushrooms. I wasn't worried before becuase I figured it was just rhizomorphs, but one of the pins that came up is completely covered in them except for the cap. Is that normal? The ones that I've been picking lately, I just cut off the base with the hairs. The strands are whiter and a tad thicker than cobweb from what I've seen.

Also, since the two casings colonized, one of them had a few patches of what kinda looks like thick strands of white mycelium breaching the surface. Looks like upside down roots. That, too, I assumed was rhizomorphic mycelium, but now I'm worried. Since then, I've been spraying with peroxide solution to no avail and I even dunked one in peroxide solution.

sounds like mycellium.. That usually happens when there is too much humidity.  White fuzzy growth, (usually very dense at the base and then thinning out as you go up the stem).  Has happened to me a few times.  No worries.  Just Gobble Gobble Gobble!
