placement idea for outdoor bed....what do y'all think?
    #7413509 - 09/15/07 02:57 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I have lived in this house in the deep south for 4 years. My backyard is west facing with a magnolia tree, a maple tree, and rose trellises (sp?) all within 25 feet of the back of the house. (Not to mention a drooping crepe myrtle directly next to and over the site.) The area in the middle of this area is guarded from the sun by the house until well afternoon and then shaded by the trees and roses after that. The area is also in a hollow which receives ALOT of drainage water from rain. The best part...and most coincidental....is that there is a pit about 2x3 feet and 10 inches deep That I have been trying to fill up with leaves and used potting soil for the past 4 years....not religiously...just when I have some stuff to throw in there.

I think this pre-existing hole is an ideal location for an outdoor mushroom bed. Please take a look at the pics and tell me what you think.

Thanks in advance!

You don't want it to flood. Standing water is bad. You might fill in the hole with some compost and straw until it's level with the ground. Otherwise it looks great.
