Pedro pup/grafting question
    #7413347 - 09/15/07 02:16 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I have this san pedro that i cut a few months back because it was very etoliated. The pup grew back fairly thin. do you think i should remove it?

if i do remove it i plan to graft a loph seedling to it. even better yet would it be possible/recommended to cut the top few inches of the pup off and graft the loph to its base? that way it has the established mother plant as a root stalk.

any help is appreciated. thanks!

If you do want to graft a loph seedling to it, you might as well do it to the fresh growth, but keep that part attatched to the main trunk so that it can feed from its well established root system, cut off any more pedro pups that come out. I have much better sucess grafting seedlings after a few years, or after being grafted to pereskiopsis for a few months.

if i were you i would cut the pup off , root it

then graft right to the mother cactus, this way you will have another cactus to graft to down the road, or you can just graft right to the pup, it is up to you.

good luck

I forgot to mention that I think grafting to well established trichs speeds up growing and pupping several fold
