8 K's through 4 innings already. Not a single walk. That's control man, that's some location...the Mets are going to be nasty in the playoffs this year. I'm sticking with my World Series pick but I still think the Mets are going to give it a good push.

Pedro has always been this good. It is no surprise to me. Too bad the Mets are in my division.

Speaking of control. I was watching Baseball Tonight a few nights ago and they came up with this insane stat: In the last 15 years, Greg Maddux has started more games than batters he has walked. I can't remember the numbers (in the 400's), but he started one more game than batters walked. THAT'S fucking control!

Sabathia is the new control pitcher.

Sabathia is the #1 AL pitcher on another team that I would like to see in a Yankee uniform. Guy's a horse.

No, thats getting alot of calls.
Anyone who's seen Maddux pitch for any length of time, fan or not, will admit that he always gets a few extra inches off the plate.
When you've made a name as a pitcher who can nibble and gnaw at the corners for strikes, you end up convincing the umpire, who is only human, that maybe that last one that was a bit outside DID nip the plate.
I'm not saying its some vast conspiracy, just human error. But it does exist. And God only knows how many extra K's or less BB's its given him...

Sure, I'm a big Maddux fan. He's an incredibly classy guy, and I've enjoyed watching him both times he's pitched here in Chicago.
I agree, if you can get it, take it.

Maddux is an awesome pitcher. He dominated the game so throughly in the nineties it was incredible. I saw him pitch a few times myself. The first baseball game I had ever been to actually. He shut out the Reds. I believe that was in 1996 or 1997, the first years of Turner Field. And don't think Maddux doesn't know where he can pitch with what umpires and how to manipulate hitters. He studies them all on tape.
