Bolete.. But What Kind?

Found in West Michigan today at the base of a hardwood tree. No bruising, tubes appear to be white, brown cap. Stem appears slightly bulbous and has a netting pattern towards the top. I'm assuming it has white spores. I'm going to cook it up tonight and see how it tastes, looks and smells good. Are there King Boletes in this part of the country?

Thanks for the reply. Had a very nice, almost nut-like flavor. Not bitter at all. Yes, I have seen LOTS of boletes this season! Thanks again.

i've seen them in a forest near my home, but there are at least 3 different species of boletes. chocholate brown cap, then red cap and finally the one u got there. if it doesnt taste like crap, its edible ? i mean, there are no poisonous boletes?

There are plenty of poisonous boletes.
In North America, all poisonous boletes have red or orange tubes or tube mouths, bruise blue, or both. There are several species that pass those tests that are inedible but not listed as poisonous.
Note also that excluding the bolete groups I mentioned above will have you discarding several edible species. But if you want easy rules that will work, those will do the trick. If you want to get all the species that are worth eating you'll have to spend the time to learn the species individually.
Happy mushrooming!
