Optimal length for dunking?

What is the optimal length for dunking cakes? Ive heard 12 and Ive heard 24. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Put em in before you go to sleep, after you wake up and do all your teeth brushing and such, take em out. That's optimum time ;p

You dont want to dunk over 24h our else you could damage or even kill the mycelium. It depends on how much water they need. If i'm dunking before the first flush then it is usually a short one but if they have gone through one or two flushes w/o a dunk then I might give them a good 24 hours.

If a cake that only needs 12 hours gets dunked for 24, would that be a bad thing? Or is the max water a cake can hold always the same?

but they usually are fine.

casings can be tricky, make sure youlet it drain real well before you put it back in it's tray, you don't want water pooling in the bottom.
