ADDITION TO RULES *9.15.07*
    #7412705 - 09/15/07 10:39 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I have sorted the rules so that the most relevant rules to one another are in a progressive order.

In addition, I have added a rule (SORRY!), that has needed to be covered for a while, since so many threads have been started as obvious loop-holes in regards to rules #4 and #5.

So, here is the new rule, #6:

Quote:

6. No asking WHEN or WHERE mushrooms, or a specific mushroom species will grow.
This includes, asking what habitat a mushroom[s] can be found- or their preferred fruiting conditions. This can be very simply answered by using the "search posts" feature:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/search.php
Asking if "now is a good time to look for mushrooms".
Or how long to wait after rain fall to go hunting.
Each mushroom species has a different rate of growth- some mushrooms, like Ganoderma species, take quite a while to mature, compared to mushrooms like Conocybe, which take only one night to show up, and mature, and are all shriveled by the end of the next day. Conversely, Ganoderma persist for months, only disappearing when the bark beetle infestation has done enough damage, that the fruiting body falls to the ground, and slowly gets eaten away, and any remainder, crumbles into the top soil.
These issues are sort of redundant, as addressed in rules #4 and #5, yet needed to be explained more concisely, due to many people seeing these questions as loop-holes since they were not directly described.

Any comments, criticisms, or suggestions are welcome!!

Makes sense to me, probably a pretty good idea actually,
not locking the forum, but not asking redundant questions
about habitat, growth, etc.

Keep up the good work CureCat.

It will not prevent the questions, however, those sorts of threads can now be locked, without argument from the original poster, that it was not explicitly in the rules.

I welcome constructive criticism.

If you have a suggestion to make things better, or explanation of why you think my implementations are amiss, please share it, but don't indirectly chastise my efforts if you have no ideas yourself.

Its all good here.

I dont think that the shroomery forum has a real problem and any attempts to try and make it perfect are pointless in my opinion.
My experience is this:
Assholes and idiots are present everywhere in the world and the internet is a place where they all go. Just that way.

The shroomery is no different and its something we must all deal with. I enjoy this site everytime i log on. (about every 8 hours or less)
Always learning.

Besides, the problems are always dealt with quickly by our moderators.
If anything, the shroomery has gotten immensely better and more organized.

Good rule, that was something that annoyed the piss out of me for years. I think I tried to implement something like this at one point, but this was back when members were still bitching about the rules we already had. I guess people just accept them now.

Good to see you Gumby!  I was hoping you'd comment, after I saw you were logged in.

There is still a lot of resistance to the rules, though, most of the regulars have come to recognize their importance in getting people to do their own research, and keeping the forum tidy.

Come by more often.  :scrambled:

I usually go out right after it rains, but mainly, because I like to hunt for like 4 to 5 hours. It's become my new addiction.
