Compost
    #7412702 - 09/15/07 10:38 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

Well my cakes are incubating and to me it looks like they are doing fine, but for my next grow I would like something with a higher yield than cakes and was thinking about doing a casing type of thing. Now I read that straw, coir, and crap/hpoo are all good for substrates. Unfortunately I could not find coir and a not going to go into the hpoo buisness, but I did however find straw (15$ a medium bundle) and remembered that I haeone of those compost things in my backyard thats been sitting there for years unused. So I was wondering if a compost and straw mix would work as a substrate, and if so how would I go on about sterilizing it?

Why would sterilization not be needed? I imagine that something thats been outside for years decaying would have tons of contaminations.

He's saying you would want to pasteurize it and not sterilize it.

Do a search on bulk grows or pasteurization. You should find a method that will be suitable to your needs. GL:)
