Has anybody tried to grow morels indoors? If so what were your results and what setup/ it did you use? Thanks

I think morels have one of those fucked-up symbiotic relationships going on. They're not even cultivated commercially, unless I'm mistaken. You need to hunt them around the right kinds of trees, due to the enzymes or bacterial symbiotes that surround the root system, or something. Same with truffles.
BTW, I saw Alton Brown eating deep-fried morels the other day on Food TV. Fucking ridiculous, but in an awesome sort of way. It's like chocolate-coating and egg-battering a filet mignon!

Shit, guess I was wrong. I could've sworn they were dependent on some symbiotic deal, but I guess I just assumed that because they're so rare and are essentially uncultivated (most bought morels ARE wild-picked, which is why you can't get them at, say, Wegmans). My bad! Great links.
Man, I hate being that retard who spews bad info when he has no right to. I don't know how this wound up in my recent threads file, because it's from a forum I don't (and should know well enough not to) post to very often.

Morels are saprophytic AND mycorhizzal. They are a mushroom that literally outevolves the cultivator.

That link has blown my mind, and is now responsible for the consequences. Mind-blowage is not to be taken lightly.
Really though, interesting link, from what I can actually grasp. A little above me, and most of us (I hope, or else I'm alone in my stupidity).
But hopelessly discouraging to my hope of one day growing morels myself, you know. Those deep-fried fishy apricot honeycombs were right on the tip of my tongue...
Edit: Wait, why is the same link spewing this Lyndon Larouche shit? http://nov55.com/gbwm.html Not sidetracking here, but I do suggest this may throw the credibility of the non-peer-reviewed link in doubt.

here is a pdf file you can download....or if theres still time they will send you a free hardcopy of the report. Its a VERY VERY good read. It describes western morel ecology and growth and also elucidates various methods morels form mycorhyzal relationships, and also details out their saprophytic adventures after fires. One of the best morel reads EVER. pp38-42 have some very insightful factual info...but the whole thing is a great read

WTF that like is crazy. Cheers Yidaki
Heres another link with similar info to before http://www.mykoweb.com/articles/morel_cultivation.html
Grow log in progress http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/6790457
Start of a grow thread and a load of links form the jackel http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/6984216/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1
liquid culture thread http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6766305#6766305
Also found this excerpt on spore prints "For mushrooms belonging to the Ascomycetes, like the morels and false morels, a spore print is obtained using a similar method. However, since these mushrooms have tiny spore jets that forcibly eject the spores, you will place a piece of the cap on the paper or glass and expect the spore print around the mushroom section (as well as underneath it, if you have placed the spore-producing side downwards)."
I really want to grow morels, but the links say its not cost effective. If someone finds a growlog pls post (except the one below)
p.s would it kill you do a search? lol only joking will try to get a tek going at some point
Peace
