Heating methods - grow area

It's starting to get cold here. I don't want to keep my apartment hot all the time, and I don't really want a space heater running in the grow area. What is a good way to keep the mushrooms warm without burning anything down or wasting a bunch of money?

They don't need to be warm. Normal room temperature is perfect. If you heat a terrarium, your precious humidity is wasted by being turned into worthless condensation on the sides of the unit. If necessary, those oil filled space heaters work great and don't get hot enough to be a hazzard. RR

Keeping them at room temp works best...lol. They'll fruit just fine in the low 70's (F), I've even had to do an entire run, colonization to fruiting without the temps ever going above 69(F) before - thanx to my wifey being prego at the time and needing the temps to be consistently below human tolerance. :sigh:

I live in Colorado. Room temp with the heater off falls into the 60's or lower- I live in an old house with poor insulation.
Guess I'll just have to wait and see. Maybe this is my chance to develop a cold-hardy strain for the community.

I just discovered that placing jars above the stove, in the fume hood, with the light on, is a good source of ambient heat that takes the place to 80deg Farenheit. External low is approx 65 degrees farenheit. Find something that gives off heat, behind a computer, etc

the closet where the water heater is (in your apartment) is also a great "warm spot" if you can rig lighting...but the air exchange SUCKS

use a heatbomb stick a 25watt fish tank heater ($10) into a bottle of spring water, seal it and tune it to 80 degrees put your jars in the box with it and there you go
repeat as neccesary xD

Heating blankets are fire hazards waiting to happen... if you're going to go that route, get a good heated seed germination mat.

yeah this isn't bad advice if your room stays around 75*F or more. Otherwise you'll be waiting about 23 days for a jar to colonize, which honestly, IS NOT good... that's way too long, and invites time for other contams/bacteria/molds, what have you to set in.

Jars aren't a problem, I have an incubator. I'm talking about the trays. Will I be able to fruit at low temps?

If it gets below 60 in the room you're trying to fruit in, I would say you might need to find a way to heat that room a little.

you can fruit at lower temps like that, but growth is greatly slowed down. you're ed up with denser heavier fruits though

I just found another flush in my outdoor patch, I guess it isn't too cold yet. It's going to be an interesting winter.
