Sterile or not?

I just got 20 petri dishes through a trade. They say that there sterile if the package is undamaged and unopened. There is a small eraser size hole in the bag. It says there polystyrine and 1 time use only. The lids have been jumbeling around and have been exposed to air. What should I do? Any chance of sterilizing? Could I just whipe with 91% iso before use?

Whipeing them with some rubbing alcohol sounds like a good idea. Let them air dry for a couple seconds before you pour agar into them too.

Do I have to use a hepa filter for agar work? Is it like a glove box is to pf jars?

You will not *need* a HEPA filter but it would be a good idea. You'll want to be as sterile as possible when working with a sleeve a petris because if you fuck up you might loose all twenty of them. You could always work in a "clean room" bathroom or inside a make-shift glovebox. Either way you'll want to be extra careful.
