I was a kid with different priorities in life than most of my classmates. I don't know if that was a great thing for my adoptive parents, but I was angry with life. I hated the shit I had been put through and had a lot of questions. I got drunk for the first time with my cousin when I had barely turned 12. It was a great night out in the outskirts of tucson. That was also the same night I smoked my first pack of smokes. I then tried weed when I was 13. There was this kid in my band class who was a year older than me. He used to punch the shit out of my arm every time he saw me. One day he offered to smoke me up after school and was hooked from that day on. He also became a good friend of mine until I moved to NY.
Then in NY, a new friend of mine scored some acid. I didn't really know what it was at the time, I was interested. I remember the morning. A beautiful spring morning before school started. He handed me two stamps and said, "put this on your tongue and leave it." I went to first period and the rest is history. My parents were pissed that I skipped almost an entire day of school because I was only 14 and in the 8th grade. It was great. I tripped my balls off that day hiding in the woods next to school. I don't regret my first trip, but I wish I had a little more forewarning of what was going to happen to my brain.

I read about them. Reality collapsing...ego softening, putting things in perspective. Just sounded interesting to me.

Read about them in a health book in 6th grade, they interested me ever since then.

This is the reason I said leave pot out of the question. I'd expect that most people on here would have tried pot without too much forethought about it. Quite the opposite, we are seeing, of the circumstances surrounding the more potent psychedelics for most of the people on here.
Or am I wrong about weed being more of a "try on a whim" thing?

I started taking psychedelics to discover ultimate truth. Can't say that I did, but it doesn't matter. Glimpses of interconnectedness. Life is a dream.
-------------------- “Strengthened by contemplation and study, I will not fear my passions like a coward. My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

The same reason I've read so many books, rock climbed, sailed, snowboarded, white water kayaked, canoe and back pack camped, flown places, dirt biked, bungee jumped, surfed, car raced, loved etc... I've always been a seeker. An explorer of sorts. Not just to see but to feel and understand as well.

I just always wanted to see things move.

Because the workings of my mind are fascinating to me. Using psychedelics opened up avenues of exploration which were not available through psychology. I'm definitely a psychonaut.
