Tyvek and bleach

Does anybody know if tyvek degrades past the point of being an effective filter when bleached? It sounds silly out of context, but I'd like to remove some uh, distinguishing markings on a load of tyvek as part of a project.

I think you should run an experiment and give us a report. It's so cheap, I toss it out after a use or two. One pair of XXXL coveralls will make over 200 filters. Synthetic filter disks, which are PFTE, can withstand bleach hundreds of times, that I know for a fact. RR

I had to look it up.
PFTE = Polytetrafluoroethylene (TeflonĀ®)
Thanks, Rodg'
P.S.-The only things that I have found will degrade Tyvek is FLAME. I use 91% alcohol on Tyvek lid covers all the time, and I'm sure bleach wouldn't hurt either.

RR: Not a bad idea in principle, but testing air filtration through trial is such a difficult business--it may go from 3 microns to average 8 (pulling the numbers out of my ass, purely for-example), and no difference would be noticed, so it would be impossible to determine without... well yeah, okay, I guess now that I think it through that way it's very unlikely to matter. If verm and polyfill filtration are more or less effective for mycological purposes, even somewhat-degraded tyvek should be perfectly good. It's good to know that PFTE can withstand it though--I think that gives me a good basis for assuming that tyvek can do the same. This was awesome input, as always. Thanks. (Although now that I think about it I bet PFTE is way more resiliant than tyvek--it's used in cooking, after all!)
Roachman: Good to know. I know bleach is a big-time oxidizer, while alcohol isn't... but the USPS uses this stuff for a reason. It's durable! And I'm going to go out on a limb and assume it's pretty chemically durable too.
Either way, I'm giving the bleaching a go. In short, as an explanation, I don't really want to try to start up something legitimate using materials that I don't want identified, and take from that what you will (wink eVenom). A good comment on the coveralls, though, RR--if I actually make this thing I'm pondering financially viable, I will start investing in them. They don't cost much, maybe ten bucks a set from what I've seen, but I am frugal to a fault.
Thanks all!
(PS: Any word from Agar in all these months? As much as I love the guy's work, I'm thinking of competing... they're not pretty at this point, but they're more economical, and I've got a new suction-based design for LC lids that I don't think anyone has tried, or at least marketed.)
(PPS: Has anyone noticed serious degradation in tyvek with repeat use? I haven't, but I've only done this for a short while compared to most. Maybe I should consider those synthetic filters as a material if I'm going to create some truly durable lids.)

Since I uh, already did a PPS above, I'd like to mention for anyone interested in homebrewing that tyvek filters seem to work fine as a replacement for airlocks, too.
Okay, sure, so that probably only saves you like three bucks on an airlock (or no bucks, if you make your own), but it's one factor that allowed me to make a 17-gal fermenter for $8. Awesome!

Well, Tyvek is interwoven glass fibers.
The only thing I know that will eat through glass is HF.
Hydrofluoric acid.

Naw, I don't think that's right--I think Tyvek is polyethelene based, totally synthetic. I mean, I imagine there are sources of tyvek that might be fiberglass-reinforced composites or something, but I doubt it is usually.
There we go, Wiki says it's some kind of alkene. Man, easy to get sidetracked with this site... did you know they make money (partially) out of tyvek in some countries? Good idea, bet it would stand up better in the wash.

It's okay. I mean, we had a stake and pile of wood all ready to burn you at, but... I guess we can just have a cookout or something.
