Is this True? About injecting distilled water into a fully inoculated jar.
I heard you can inject a jar with a small amount of distilled water, shake the jar a bit and then extract the water with the syringe so I can inoculate more jars.
Is this true?
Thanks for any help, eleven34

Yes, you can do it. I've done it, works great. I've used grain jars for the donor, not cakes- but it should work the same. RR pointed out in a recent post that the 'grain juice' has nutrients and the myc will continue to grow, so you can add additional sterile water for further expansion. I've never needed to, though. Shoot water into a grain jar, shake, suck it back up and shoot a few ml's into the other jars.
It's like grain-to-grain, but without opening the jars.

Thanks for the info Dr. T, also another ? does the jar have to be fully inoculated?
How do I sterilize the water? Does boiling it sterilize it?
I only have cakes right now, I will be switching to rye seed or wbs for better results. So I will try with the cakes and hopefully it will work.
Thanks again

inoculating is to shot spore into a jar with a syringe you must mean fully colonized

Yes if I have a fully colonized jar. Injecting distilled water then extracting the water to inoculate other jars.

this sounds very interesting.... how long does it take for the "grain juice" jar to clonize then, does it act like multispore LC and work in days or what?
I may try this soon, I have a bunch of near colonized jars and the makings for some big WBS spawn bags... how much of this juice would you recommend for a 5 lb spawn bag?

headieherbs somewhere on the site it explains how to do it. I've been looking for it. You pretty much just sterilize some water inject your inoculated jar shake it up a bit extract the water wait a bit like a couple of days til you see mycelium growth in the syringes like a boogery white strands. Then your ready to inoculate more jars.

No, there's no need to wait! Just suck the water up and shoot it into the new jars. You can wait, but you don't need to and I never do.
It's basically like a grain to grain transfer, you are taking mycelium out of a colonized jar and putting it into a fresh jar. You should wait until the donor jar is fully colonized for best results. That way you avoid taking foreign, unwanted contams, and have the best chance to get a lot of good myc. It also makes it easy for the jar to re-colonize.

My inoculated jars have been in the incubator for close to a week now with no signs of mycelium growth. There are no signs of contamination, The cakes do look dry. I was thinking of injecting a couple cc's of sterile water into the substrate where the spores were injected. Will this work? Any thought's on what could be the problem? Any help would be appreciated. inc. - 78 degrees strain - Golden Teachers time in inc. - 7 day's Half pint jars 60 minutes @ 15 psi glove box was used during inoculation.

What did you inoculate your jars with? MS? Spore print? LC? I'm in a similar situation. My jars have been 8 days now with no sign of life. I inoculated mine using MS and have had them sitting at around the low 70's up until today when I put them in a make-shift incubatory to get the temp up to around 80. Just give it time. I've had a lot of people tell me that you can go up to 12 to 14 days with out seeing any growth at all especially with temps around the mid to low 70's.
