A book for all the "open minded" who know the truth.

A MIND OF IT'S OWN: How Your Brian Distorts and Deceives, by Cordelia Fine.
Takes a delightfully unsparing look at what your brain is doing behind your back. Examines how, unbeknownst to us, our brain - vain, emotional, immoral, deluded, pigheaded, secretive, weak willed, and bigoted - pushes, pulls, twists, and warps our perceptions.
Have a blast with this one seekers of truth.

Of course. Simon and Garfunkel could have written an ode to it.

Didn't you say you couldn't know anything in an earlier thread? I think you did:

if we are only a brain, and our brain controls everything we are and do, then how are involuntary functions taken control of? example: slowing heart rate, increasing body temp, controlling the digestive tract....etc.
If there is something overriding the brain, then what is it? is it the brain over-riding the brain? seems like if I was head of a company I owned, the CEO of CEO's then I wouldnt be taking orders from someone higher up than me, because there is no one higher up.

Different parts of our brain do not operate within our mind's control. The Triune brain theory expands upon this idea & is extremely fascinating, IMO.

Ironically, one category of persons shows that it is possible to view life through a clearer lens. "Their self-perceptions are more balanced, they assign responsibility for success and failure more even-handedly, and their predictions for the future are more realistic. These people are living testimony to the dangers of self-knowledge," Fine asserts. "They are the clinically depressed." Case in point.

I'll just call it self importance and leave it at that.

Your brain may be deluding you into feeling that way.

does the author allow for any personal responsibility? or are we completely at the mercy of this "brain" character?
