A few libs in the wild (pics)
    #7407763 - 09/14/07 05:13 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

----Zooom-->

Does anybody know a way to keep spores of tiny mushrooms like those ones? The sporeprints come in almost invisible..

Nice pics man!

Keeping spores of PS. Semilanceta works just as keeping spores of any Cubensis strain... The fact that you don't see it doesn't mean that it isn't there

Luckily, that's true  Have you looked yet kaal-kopje? I'm guessing it's still a tad warm, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are some early ones out yet around here!

Grib, nice pics man, it's good to see your libs again this year!

Hehe its all different sports  lib hunting for me goes something like this: We walk or bike around scanning the field not going too slow so we can cover some ground and not to draw too much attention (guess same goes for cubes)
Until someone spots one. Then the party goes into super search mode. Backs bend 90 degrees or more, nose to the ground carefull not to step on any (or just crawl around on hands and knees) and then proceed to unravel almost every clump of grass in a radius of 10 feet around the find or so...:tongue2:

And if there are more, the picking itself also takes some patience. Often grass sticks on the pellicle of the cap and will tear the mushroom up when you pick it. You first have to carefully peel all the grass off the sticky cap..

But i love it!

Yeah, I guess, although the weather has really been warming up again since yesterday. Ah well, just a tiny delay.

Good pictures i liked to see them!

I was on a brief (1 1/2 hour loook) through 2 fields yesterday. Central Scotland. I did not come across 1 single mushroom, never mind a lib cap. I am going to have a look in some other fields tomorrow. I will post results. Its been very mild and not much rain the last few weeks, but for 3 days its been raining quite a bit. Today it was very wet and its colder than it was 1 week ago too (noticeably)

I think they will show but this is a field wheree ive allways collected from and there was absolutely ZILCH. Same field one year i collected binbags full in the space of a few hours they were so plenfitul. Nothing this year yet. Sorry if I've read fast and skipped it but where are you situated (to the picker)

I live in an area where theres tons of lochs its a bit like the lake district, i was wondering if you can find libs in ANY grassy pastures or is it only fields? I dont wan to waste time in expanses of grassy wet boggy terrain if there is high chance of no success. Am I better just to look in every field and skip the "exposed" pastures or do they grow, literally everywhere?
For example there is a few pastures on small mountains/hills where i go jogging that i havent looked at just because it wasnt a fenced off field and it was very marshy and boggy + heather is this terrain unsuitable for lib cap growth? if anyone could try to respond id be very greatful, thanks
from scotland

Yeah, I tend to agree that animals are not necessary for Ps.Semilanceata. The proper type of grass growth is more important.

Those are tiny specimens.
After several lib hunts you become able to determine proper grass spots from a distance. There's no need of crawling through all the field with the magnifying glass as maybe you thought. For better sight you may eat the first shroomie you've found. That works nice for me, I become able to see hidden mushrooms on the places I passed before and found nothing.

I have lakes and bogs around here, all my finds were on grassy wet fields for haymowing, the best mushrooms were on an abandoned boggy field with tall grass, just once found few on a cow pasture..
What a pity, the farmers ploughed up that abandoned field for their dumbass corn..

I'd check the field first, though if you really don't want to waste your time choose growing, that's faster and easier. As for me, I don't pick wild psilocybes anymore, i just find a pleasure in hanging about and photographing on fields.
