these edibles

unfortunately i don't know the names of the species, but this is a highly valuable mushroom in my area (easter europe). taking a spore print of the first one was impossible as the mushroom is monstrous and it's still a "pin".

the second was a young one too.

just wanted to share, because i've never seen a big shroom like that on the first photo.

Beautiful boletus, looks like a close cousin of boletus edulis (or perhaps b. edulis itself). They are collected in the US and Canada as well ('King boletes') and they are a true phenomenon in Italy and France. However, strangely enough, they are not very popular in Western Europe. I understand that they are collected in great numbers in Northern Europe (especially Sweden). I know of their popularity in Eastern Europe; my girlfriend's stepmother is from Ukraine and she's probably in the woods around here right now

So it is a king bolete? id like to know when their season starts. I planned on trying to rustle up a few to impress the parents.

wonderful pictures. this species almost looks psilocybian in nature in the younger pic.. caramel cap and white stem.

Season starts now. Yes, it's a King bolete or something very similar; an excellent edible in any case.
