I managed to get around Windows Genuine Advantage

So for whatever reason, my legitimate windows pro installation had been flagged as pirated. Didn't really bother to bitch to microsoft too much, but finally looked around about two months ago- tried a fix, and it didn't work. The consensus seemed to be that the cracks didn't work.
Anyways just looked again, and I found a way to succesfully use windows update. The nag icon in the system tray remains, but I'll update after I restart the comp, and let people know if it is gone as well.
Hopefully someone is helped by this. I've heard alot of anecdotal reports of others with wga issues while they had legit copies- for whatever reason.

You can find the files they refrence by searching for them as torrents in google.

If it says its pirated just ring up. Its like they dont really give a shit about xp anymore and they will just give you a new serial.

Yes, you can always give them a call (1-800-Microsoft). With the job I have we usually have to call them once or twice a day to authenticate our clients computers. Don't worry and just give the nice Indian lady your numbers.

...and when she asks how many computers you have this installed on, answer "one".

Heh, the legendery Redmond efficiency at work... I'm using a pirated version of XP Pro SP2 and have had zero problems validating with WGA.

I suppose it can happen accidentally, but I don't understand why anyone would accept that update in the first place. Legal copy or not, there's really no good reason to.
