Absolutely disturbing
    #7406738 - 09/13/07 10:18 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I just saw an ad on tv promoting the war in Iraq, paid for by Freedom Watch. Since when do we need to advertise for wars? What the fuck is next?

Since the begining of warfare. How else are you going to convince people to risk their lives (for good or bad)?

Bush also hired a PR firm to market the war at the outset.

As long as they aren't paying for the sweets with my tax dollars, I don't really care. (I do care about American soldier's that are risking their lives and dying, but that isn't part of the PR that this thread is discussing.)

ya these have been out forever, but normally in the form of a fabricated news report.

p.s. what makes me mad... is thinking about the total production and marketing cost for these commercials, on top of everything else. Was there really nothing better to spend money on - say, more bullet proof vests / etc.?

The ad mentioned in the opening post wasn't paid for by tax dollars either.

What stocks could I invest in to profit from war?

About that picture in your signature. I don't believe the WTC towers fell at free fall speed. The conspiracy people obviously made that up like they made up everything else.

I don't really care about the soldiers either. They choose to be in the military and choose to follow orders without question. Their fate is in their own hands.

True. I guess this is the first time I have ever seen one on television and it left me kind of shocked. At the same time, I don't think anyone should be able to advertise for OR against war. It seems that if someone (other than politicians) is advertising for war then they must have a financial stake in it.

Take your pick. Halliburton? Lockheed Martin? Oil? It seems any company really that is gaining from contracts for the war would be a good investment.

They made up that they building fell at free fall speed? The news filmed them as they fell and as someone whose degree has required me to take a number of physics classes, I can tell you the math is correct and those buildings fell 1-2 seconds slower than free fall speed. Also, the piles left from all three buildings do not support the official pancake collapse theory. Where is the pile of pancakes?

Can we go five minutes without having yet another 9/11 conspiracy round table?

That was my point. Not my tax dollars, so I don't really care what they do, be they good guys or bad guys.

> Can we go five minutes without having yet another 9/11 conspiracy round table?

Nope. How would all the schmucks like Alex Jones make any money off of all the deaths on 9/11 if they don't continue to stir up the discussions.

Remember that the first Gulf war's popularity was caused by a PR campaign that was paid for by the Saudi government that ran ads in the States.

Confused or Politically Charged Dickhead Organizations trying to gain support for stupid wars or military actions is nothing new.

So you don't care if the military is properly equipped?

They chose to risk their life in order to protect the constitution for me, in order to protect your right not to care about them, without having met either of us. Just because the politicians use our soldiers like chess pieces, in my mind at least, is no reason to dishonor the soldiers.

Thanks Seuss. It's almost as if some people post, thinking that there aren't veterans, or enlisted military that also read and post on this website.

"They choose to be in the military and choose to follow orders without question."

There are plenty of people who joined for more noble reasons than just following orders. I know that may not be the intended outlook at joining the military to some, but it's true. Lots of people join for the GI Bill, some join because they have a family, and cannot get a job that would provide the amazing benefits and insurance plans, etc. - some join because they buy into the propaganda (which is NOT a negative word, ww2 did that - it's a valid term for political advertisement).

I have countless friends that joined pre 9/11, and just hoped to do some good and protect the country while learning skills and saving money for college. They were some of the most liberal people I had ever met, and their reasons for joining were just as unique as they were. I say "they were" because many of them have died since, and many of them have converted over to "the dark side." It's not easy keeping your own mentality in there, if you stay in for more than 4-6 years. After your first term, you are either into it, or not.

One of my friends filed for the conscientious objector, and they literally put him through so many hoops, he became a beaten man. After a year of being degraded, reassigned as "bird shit scraper," he did the unthinkable, and cut his wrists in his BDUs.

Still, it took another year until they even let him out, because his term was up! And if he hadn't done all of that, they would have kept him in on stop loss, like 99% of all my friends that survived, who had their benefits revoked. I got a few calls this week from friends that were just called back in to active duty, and are being shipped out.

The thing is, LOTS of military are completely against this war, and are doing as much as they can - however, you do not have the right to that opinions. For anyone who hasn't been in the military, this may be a foreign concept, but you literally have your rights "redefined" (actual words used many times). Meaning you basically lose your first (speech, press, and peaceable assembly depending on the cause), third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and possibly eighth amendments.

That's correct.

p.s. let me emphasize my point with a news story from 2 days ago:

http://www.abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=3594058&page=1

Quote:

Two War Critic Soldiers Killed in Iraq
Omar Mora and Yance Gray, Who Died Monday, Were Two of the Seven Soldiers Who Penned a Controversial Op-ed About the War's Progress

Sgt. Omar Mora, 28, and Staff Sgt. Yance T. Gray, 26, two of the authors of "The War as We Saw It," were killed in Baghdad Monday when the five-ton cargo truck they were riding in overturned.

Another of the authors, Staff Sgt. Jeremy Murphy, was shot in the head while the group was working on the article.

The controversial Aug. 19 editorial gained international attention for its skepticism about the American war effort: "To believe that Americans, with an occupying force that long ago outlived its reluctant welcome, can win over a recalcitrant local population and win this counterinsurgency is far-fetched."

The news of their deaths arrived as Gen. David Petraeus was finishing his testimony to Congress about the progress of the military's surge in Iraq.

I won't comment any further on this, but I hope it's abundantly clear what I am implying.
