Iso and Fumed Pipes

I have a nice purty fumed pipe I bought at a decent headshop for $40 that I'm wanting to clean...
(When it was almost new)

My problem is, in the past I have cleaned a fumed pipe with the alcohol/salt method (my favorite method), but it washed all the "fume" out of it. It was a cheap $15 tobacco shop pipe, so I'm thinking that has something to do with it, but I've been reluctant to clean any fumed pipes that way since then.
The dude at the headshop I got this one from claims that iso shouldn't wash out the fuming in the pipes he sells, but I don't trust him completely because he's trying to sell the pipes...
So what would you think the chances of the fuming washing out of my GOOD pipe would be if I used iso/salt? Also, if it does wash the fuming out of a certain pipe, would vinegar also wash out the fuming? I don't like using water... but if I have to in order to keep from ruining my pipe's color then I guess I gotta do what I gotta do...

Well if he says that, and Iso washes it out, isn't he responsible for lying to you? I'm sure it'll be safe.

Yeah he would be but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll refund my money or replace it if the iso ruins it... Idunno, I have trust issues when it comes to sales people... I'll prob end up using the alcohol on it though, I'm just kinda hesitant and wondering what other people think.

Not to be a complete dumbass but what the hell is fuming. I'm guessing a technique used by the glass blower to add some sort of detail to the piece?

Fuming is what makes the glass "color changing". They vaporize gold or silver or whatever and blow it into the glass or something like that, I'm not completely sure about the process but thats the general idea.

Oh wait, my bowl is just like that... It's perfectly fine and I use iso on it all the time. I'll show you a photo of it.

It's usually orange and pink, not green and silver.
Edit: Eh, I should rephrase that, it's originally orange and pink, but usually green and silver after I use it, lol.

Maybe it was the iso/salt mixture? I used iso on quite a few fumed pipes.
