    #7404539 - 09/13/07 01:31 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

has anyone inoculated there BRF cakes withotu the use of a glovebox?
Ive done it twice with good results but was reading about these and trying to decide on using them

I live off a country road with lots of dust but I did spray a bleach water mist into the air before INNOC

but basically how do u keep the contmas from gettin in ur GB and then getting in when u inoculate?

Well, if you have a lid on the glovebox, and your arms go in the holes, there's really not much room for air to be moving around you to get in. Some people go so far as to make them almost completely airtight.

Any time you use a glovebox you're supposed to put all the materials you're going to be working with inside it, then spray the inside of the box out with whatever disinfectant you're using, then let it sit for a few minutes so the spray can settle.

This will kill off anything that would have gotten inside the glovebox when you opened it.

Basically, the main point of a glovebox is simply to provide a still-air workspace so the little air currents that are all around us don't go dropping dust and mold spores and floating carpet fibers, etc. onto/into your jars.
