i didnt plan on starting so late but the spores took much longer to arrive than i expected. its nearly autumn and the weather is slowly getting colder and colder but on average is about oh 62 right now until october, november arrives and then it will start to snow. its fair to say that inside my house it will be around 62, im thinking it might be warmer in my attic but not for long. so the question is: whats the best way to heat my little fungi cakes?

Place a small space heater in the room in which you're fruiting and set it at 75. Simple and clean. The ambient temperature of your fruiting chamber will reach the temperature of the room within a day or so.

This is I think you have a lot of liberty in your setup. I keep my jars in shoeboxes stacked in my closet, and keep a light with a red heating bulb near them. No, its not the best option, but many many different setups will get the job done.

i just bought a simple heat pad(for back pain relief) and put it under a 5 gallon bucket. you will prolly have to put it on high for it to get up to temp. i then put a small box (like an empty cracker box, 3" high)into the bucket as a buffer. the bottom of the bucket will get a little too hot but the box will elevate your cakes to a safe height above the heating element. try this with a thermometer first so you can experiment with different temp settings on the heat pad to get the right temp(around 86 or so). put the lid on and viola, a dark, perfectly heated environment is created for very little money and energy use, and without having to worry about your house catching on fire. worx for me.
