Hi I just installed ubuntu 7.04 and it basically looks crap. How do I get the resolution to be 1680x1050? The font looks fuzzy. And it looks like it was made for little kids. How can I make it looks better?

You should be able to download a package with the drivers that you need. I'm not sure how to though. ATI, Nvdia, or Intel?

run lspci | grep VGA from the command line and post the output.
then open the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf and post that here as well.
the right X settings will clear up your resolution. to find new theme settings, check out gnome-look.org.

Ubuntu 7.04 has the capability to have a much more appealing GUI than Windows Vista -- IMO. With a nice GPU & Beryl/Compiz you can have 3D rotating desktops and other effects.
What kind of GPU are you using? By default Ubuntu does not have immediate Nvidia/ATI support & therefore you'll need to download the restricted drivers.
