Question about innoculating pf cakes

During inoculation, do the spores need an air supply to grow myc?
because i was thinking about sealing all of the jars individually in the event of a contamination(I've heard that first timers get a bunch of contams)
So the question is, would sealing a PF cake in a half pint inoculated with spores already in an airtight chamber stunt or perhaps prevent growth?

The dry vermiculite barrier takes care of contams. First time growers get more contaminates due to bad un-sterile procedure.

No, that is only a very old rumor... nobody gets contams. If you work fast, it is not necessary to seal the substrate jars... maybe you want to make a short visit to ShroomCity in order to get all the needed informations?
Merry enlightenments...

I think they are laughing at the guy saying no one gets contams and that people should feel free to leave their jars open.
To answer your question people get away with leaving the tape on their jars and they colonize. But I have always taken the tape off when I see signs of mycellium to let them get air.

Myceleum needs oxygen, and produces CO2. Airtight jars will see limited/halted growth when there is no available oxygen.

Exactly right. I messed up with my BRF cakes, and now I'm paying for it. Out of 20 edible strained jars I inoculated, only 7 survived. The rest stalled at 20-70% because they were all sealed off with aluminum foil. Just go to the drug store and pick up some 3M paper tape (medical) and put that over the holes to allow air in but not contams.
