The plan was to harvest chicken of the woods while walking through the woods yesterday, about five clusters of which were found... unfortunately they should have been found a week earlier... based on growth characteristics it is safe to assume many of them were Laetiporus cincinnatus... what a drag... motivation to be more diligent during Grifola season. Here are pictures of a few other things encountered during the mildly disappointing trek.

Nice shots! I can understand your disappointment, when I looked at the preview, I thought you had found some cubes (I didn't know your loc.).
Nice shots nonetheless.

Thanks! The disappointment was nullified about an hour ago when a friend gave me a nice bundle they recently collected. At this point, rather than making collections for the table, photo opportunities are a higher priority as I have a slide show coming up.

Yeah cool pics nonetheless. No failure there. Except the complete failure of your spirit to be guided by the mushroom life force of gaia, but otherwise, nice finds!

Yumm. I had a chicken growing last year in a hidden spot in the woods, I was waiting for the perfect time to harvest it, checking it every day, telling it how much I loved it and all sorts of sordid details about my life - the kind of stuff you imagine coon doing in the woods - then when the day came to get it, it was gone! I hope it didn't reveal any personal details to whomever picked it. I have noticed some people following me though. Usually only when I have pennies in my pocket, which everyone knows contain tracking devices. And my tinfoil hat is at the cleaners!
Oh, yeah - great finds and pics georgeM.

Do most people go hunting silently?? It has been pointed out to me, that i talk to myself and the mushrooms and critters when i am out hunting. Kind of a narrative of my thoughts. I wish I could turn it off when i am in company.

City birds are more fun, in my experience. Particularly pigeons. They don't really pay attention to people, because there are so many. So, when I am walking down the street in the city of San Diego or San francisco, I'll see pigeons, and watch them in my peripheral- just don't look at them, or they become wary!! and when i am about a foot away from them and walking in a straight line at a brisk pace, I very suddenly turn and lunge at them. I've definitely batted at a few in this manner.... but then i feel the need to wash my hands.
