I want a Preying Mantis!!!!

I just discovered i want a preying mantis as a pet!
I was flipping through channels and saw the movie, "The Hidden Dragon" with Bruce Lee in it was on and started thinking about that movie and reflecting on it. I have seen that movie dozens of times so i didn't feel like watching it, but i distinctly remember the part when Bruce Lee is on the boat sailing to that one island where all the martial artist fight eachother, and those chinamen on the boat are on the deck gambling on a praying mantis fight, and i remember how the mantid's were swiping with there prickly slashers arms and stuff, it was pretty cool.
SO yea neway i looked up on them and they are a pretty interesting type of insect. Like they arent spiders, or scorpions but they're PRAYING MANTIDS. lol and there is even a type of fighting style called the praying mantis, and having one seems kind of like a spiritual thing sort of. I for some reason find them to be very sacred insects I think it would be cool to develop a relationship with an insect like a praying mantis and people have them as pets often to, you can hold them in your hand and stuff. The live for 10-14 months so i'd basically only have it for a year but i think it would be a cool experience to have one in my life and I feel its worth trying out.
I also can't forget to mention how cool it would be to touch and handle when your frying balls lol
but yea im gonna look up where i can get one and see how much they cost!

I used to see them all the time in the summer when I was younger. Now I never see them. They are cool insects though. The female eats the male after sex if i remember correctly.

That seems like a pretty long life for a bug.

I've had one before, awesome pets that you can even hand tame. Mine would stretch her arms out at me when I was about to let her out of the terrarium...so fucking cute. She'd also hang out on the side of my monitor and strike at the mouse cursor as it went across the screen.
They're not expensive, <$20 at a pet store usually.

LOL, they are all over here. I had one for about week before I let it go because I couldn't find insects that it wanted. I see one almost daily.

I bought an egg sack from a local nursery a couple of weeks ago which is supposed to hatch in 2-8 weeks and should give my garden 200 mantids which eat all of those threatening green ladybugs and other bugs. Egg sack was 7 bucks.

Figured this would be a good place to put this. The only insects that i like more than the mantis are bees, and those aren't nearly as hard to come by.

I just saw one in my back yard the other day. It was in my driveway, I was afraid it would get run over so I picked it up and moved it to a tree. They seem to have no fear. I picked it up and it just hung there on my hand. When I was a kid I would put them in a cage and go find crickets to feed it. They just grab ahold of the cricket with the big arms and start munching away. They don't kill it first. I saw one on animal planet once mating. The female started eating the male while they were mating. She bit the head off and the male abdomen was still pumping bug cum into her.

Those things are cool. I brought a cocoon in when I was a kid. I sat in on a shelf in my room still attached to it's stick. About a week later I had what seemed like thousands of babies all over the place.

wow this is a better idea than i thought it was! im hella excited that i even thought of this! i cant wait to get one now, i really want to develop a relationship with one-get to know it, and let it get to know me-
i know that kinda sounds wierd but i think it'll be cool. i kind of feel it will sort of add to the person i am, just another responsibility for me to handle but i think its a cool and fun responsibility, and i feel like i can learn something new and interesting buy having one and caring for one. almost as if i feel the mantis will teach me something, ya know? lol neway i cant wait to get one now!

Here in CT its illegal to kill a praying mantis. Its our official state insect I believe. They're strange creatures. I haven't seen one in a while though.
I did learn the first form of mantis style when I was taking kung fu lessons. Its a beautiful fighting style.

If i had a greenhouse id definatly buy a sack of eggs if possible, but if i got some eggs atm, my mantis's would all fly away probably and not protect my plants .
