Slow thinking in conversations?
    #7398936 - 09/11/07 11:15 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

well ive been really slow comming up with things to talk about and im bad at understanding pragmatics and understanding jokes. Im also bad at comming up with jokes.

I noticed LSD nad psilocybin in small doses has made it easier for me to keep up in conversations and it seems to help me quickly understand and make jokes up.

im hypothesizing that it has something to do with a low level of serotonin. Since LSD and psilocybin both work on serotonin receptors.

So does serotoning have an impact on your ability or willingyness to converse (normally i want to talk but im too slow)

MDMA also helps me with this, which also works on serotonin

PS this is all hypothetical...

On LSD and LSA i get more concerned with my inner monologue so its hard to pay attention to what others are saying.

However in low doses just about any psychedelic increases your willingness to concentrate on most things.

Stimulation leads to more thought
Too much stimulation leads to the inability to concentrate.

You're obviously loony. Welcome to the club. Depending on your age, get doctors to sort you out as they see fit. kids-teens get speed (Ritalin, Adderol)then you move on to anti depressants (which suck in my opinion, but everyone's different) which can include some pretty strange ones like Nortriptyline, which almost stole my soul then, later you can start getting prescribed Xanax if you really need it, which I suspect many people who dig it recreationally do. There are lots of exceptions to this oversimplification,(my 26 year old friend just got put on Adderol and can't get Xanax) but that's how I see it. Obviously, if you're tripping, the Benzo point's a good place to be. Oh, and I only wrote this reply because I think that perhaps each of these options could help with your problems. If tripping is hypothetically working, cool!

You're not completely loony man. You seem to have some insecurities and 'awkwardness' that you are having trouble dealing with. For some people with those problems benzos (klonopin) play a life saving role in allowing people to function normally. There just hasn't been enough research on low doses of psychedelics to say anything for sure...

Ask a few people you trust to refer you to a 'good psychiatrist' in your area and go from there. If you don't like who they refer you to, open the yellow pages and go somewhere else. They've seen these problems a thousand times before and are good at fixing them, or helping you fix them.

I had the same sort of problems until I got really deep into Muay Thai kickboxing. I was insecure and awkward, to say the least. Now I'm one of the big dogs at my gym doing some of the instructing and training for real fights. It gave me A LOT of confidence. That's just my story.

I hope you find something that helps you out bro.

^ It almost seems like its an issue of confidence, I think the problem actually stems from some sort of chemical inbalance making me think slower, and whenever i target a drug that works on serotonin receptors, my ability to think quickly increases.

My confidence seems to be low because of this ^

the thoughts are wider, the net thought movement is the same but the wave front or pointed advancement of thought seems slower.
more associations are occurring, more checking of implications, and many more ancilliary (secondary) evaluations are going on.
the utterances are less knee jerky
this is when stoned.
