Hey all,
First time trying Rye. I was wondering, how long after sterlization can you wait to knock the jars up (Hours, days, months?). Next question is if anyone knows the Ph of a Coir casing layer.

you should wait overnight for jars to cool. i would feel comfortable using them after a week or so, longer im sure. coir casing is acidic but i dont know the ph.

UMM my coir tests at 6.9-7.2 not very acidic at all....use jars asap since when you sterilize them you dont kill everything just gives the mycelium enough time to take hold.

In THIS TEK it outlines coir/verm as a casing mix.
Would it be safe for say, 3 days after PCing my jars?

yes people use it as a casing but its better to use jiffy mix and verm in my opinion it doesnt have any nutes in it, coir does also why are you waiting so damn long, shoot the jars now dont wait a few months do some reading and research

8 hours is sufficient to cool down grain jars i sometimes allow a grain BAG (5lbs or so, large size) to cool down for 10-12.

wutang, its not by choice I am waiting on a package and I thought it would be here sooner than it will be, mistakes were made. Would it be better to throw out the Pcd jars and do a whole new batch??

umm its reaaaly really suggested man its not worth loosing jars which is very sad well, if you follow to teks, heres what i would do leave at least half of the jars that you have and use the other half new batch, if ya got 5, i would keep 2 and restard 3. also the more you keep makeing batches the more you get better at it ALSO what sponsor did you get your bag from?? i hope its not the one i ordered. what strain you useing?

if you get success post your cases in the grow log you should make a substrate of the following poo, straw, coir, coffee and your spawn.let that bitch colonize then finish her off with a jiffy mix/vermiculite (and coir if you really want to ) BAM fruit that sucker

that TEK is 2 yrs old
I have read every tek on the FAQ ..most are quite outdated and have been improved on dramatically..you have a greater chance of the coir colonizing and overlaying..or you can use the a 50/50 tek and the greatly minimize the possibilty of overlay
crud.... some folks dont even use a casing layer at all!! search wax paper..
good luck

if you truly have made a sterile environment, they will be fine for months.
coir is effectively neutral.

I have an order with Spores101. I think I will probably just redo all th jars, Rye is only .69c/lb so its not really a big deal, just VERY time consuming with soaking, and simmering, and PCing. Oh well, practice makes perfect.
Edit: Currently, the jars are being stored in my incub. chamber at 80*f. I wiped the whole inside w/ 70% Alch before putting it to use.

quote from RR: "Wrong. That's nonesense. Coir is as nutritious as horse manure, and is not suitable for use as a casing layer due to the nutrition unless massively diluted with vermiculite. That's why coir casings overlay so often. Coir is far better suited as a substrate, and there is not one single shred of evidence that coir does not deliver superior potency in cubensis. RR" unquote

Note the above quote was made in response to a statement someone made a year or so ago, not in response to automans post above. There's a difference in being neutral or without nutes when it comes to plants, as coir is, and suitable for fungi as food, which coir is. Many mushrooms, cubensis included, will grow quite well on straight coir. RR
