i did some fishing after i heard he was contacting people within the community. this is the reply i recieved.

development team here at NBC, who then pitches them to other networks.
I read an article about Erowid and mentioned it to the development
folks. They said it might be worth looking into. I don't give two shits
about the development team, but I do know how to produce a documentary
on a sensitive subject.
Frankly I hate newsmagazines and their approach to doing tv. Shock,
fear and pseudo journalism. I'm fairly liberal-minded about most
subjects. So, when it comes to looking into what the entheogenics are
up to, I want to meet people who are passionate about what they do and
profile and document the scene. The highest compliment I can get is when
someone I've profiled says "you got it right," meaning that somehow I
captured an essense of what they are about.
Long e-mail. Sorry. So, I see this documentary as a chance for a
mainstream audience to understand a community that is doing something
decidely not-mainstream. It can be tough. Will this be an advocacy
piece? Not really. An attack piece? No. A typical news magazine
"investigation?" No again.
That's about all I can tell you now. I haven't written a treatment. No
one has ordered the show and offered to pay for it. But if I can
convince them that it is a subject worth pursuing and they think someone
will watch, then it's show time.

yeah, don't allow those press people to get into your mind, they WILL lie to get any story and then rig it to where it can sound completely different to what you have said. it would be nice to find a civil news person, but these days it is just not possible.

I think you should totally watch out for this guy (im sure you know that tho)! They have that one show (not sure what station) where they catch the online predators. haha not that we are online predators (at least not all of us  ) but they set up those people, they can easily set up one of us!

Lets face it.
Any public expose on entheogens is going to have a POOR REACTION. People simply can't handle the notion that substances can be used responsibly.
I guarantee this story won't be aired unless they put a "TO CATCH A SHAMAN" spin on it.

I agree with most of the above statements. The anthropological information that we here have learned and share is sacred to those from whom it was passed. The subjects discussed here are as touchy as religion and look what happens to a religion when it receives widespread attention. Not to mention that when the public hears about things they don't understand, they attack it and usually freedoms are lost. I hope everyone is careful what they divulge to these people. Even if the journalist sincerely wants to understand, the majority of the people he broadcasts the information to won't.
