Fuck its happening again!

Dammit dammit dammit ,i tosed out 4 jars last week ,inoculated 4 more 2 days ago and i can already see cobweb in one of them and this time i made sure to be extremely sterile i even wore a garbage bag over my clean shirt im using 1 pints so i decided to do a little research on them and it turns out they are more prone to contams because they take longer to colonize so thats more bad news but this cant be why i see signs of contams on the second day ,is there something im forgeting or is it just bad luck?
BTW everyone says they take longer to colonize some say 4 weeks ,6 ,7 even 8 so on average how long should i expect to wait before birthing?

Your syringe could be contaminated.
My grain jars always fully colonize in 1.5-3 weeks from multispore. BRF takes a little longer due to it's dense consistency.
Are you pressure cooking your jars?

Could be but i got em from ralph and he seems to be pretty reliable and generous with replacements so im not going to go complaining about syringes when its probably my fault and no im not pressure cooking but i dont think thats it cause the last 4 jars were left to sit for a few days after i boiled them to make sure i did it properly anyway next time i innoculete some jars im gonna use quarts.

No, you certainly don't want to use quart jars if you're using BRF as substrate. The jars you were using were already too big. Since your jars were twice as big, you should have at least doubled your boil time.
The PF tek was originally designed for use with 1/2 pint jars for a reason. It allows heat from the boiling water to completely penetrate the substrate. The bigger the jar, the lower the temperature your jars will reach.
Do yourself a favor and buy a PC, or stick religiously to a proven tek.

I think you are confused. How big a jar are you using, in cups? Like get a measuring cup, and pour water into an empty jar.

Why do you want it in cups? I know i am currently using 1 pints and instead of moving to half pints like i probably should i thought i would try quarter pints so they would colonize quicker seeing as my 1pints are going to take forever.Did i clear everything up or do we still have a miscommunication.

You obviously havent told everything youve done. Did you use a glovebox/still air box? Where exactly did you inoculate (bathroom, kitchen, room, ect..) the jars? Did you flame/alcohol sterilize? Ralph has sterile syringes, so what happened must be on your end. I want to help you, as most of my shit fucked up early on because I was being a dumbass and using non-sterile techniques.

The first time i was definetly a little sloppy but the second time i made sure i did it right ;i inoculated in my room made sure i had everything i needed ready i sprayed 50/50 bleach and water everywhere went to have a shower put on clean clothes went back to my room put a garbage bag over my shirt put two holes in the jar flamed the needle and injected the spores 4x made sure to breathe away from the jars and even sprayed a little during the whole process ,no glove box or air filter. The more i think about it the more it looks like a contaminated syringe ,out of three syringes(B+,PR,EQ) only the PRs havent been contaminated and everytime the B+ gets cobweb and red mold right down the side i injected the spore solution and the EQ gets green mold down the side as well.

dude its probably your syringes how old are they and where did you get them?
and it sounds like you poked holes in your lids after you PC'd and right before you inoculated?? thats not right.
and it should take like 2 weeks for your jars to colonize, any longer and somethings wrong

well its probably because you're inoculating in open air. with all that you're doing to be clean the air is still filthy as fuck. even an old syring shouldn't have contams in them if they where made sterile. i'd say that your boiling times is another big factor.

I know this may be a far stretch, but where do you store you garbage bags? I store my inside trash bags next to the trash can in the pantry, (obviously a very contaminated area!), and I store my outside "yard" bags in the garage, (an area that has probably been exposed to every mold spore known to man!). You see where I'm going with this? I have personally never gotten a contaminated syringe from Ralphsters. That's not to say that it can't happen, but it's unlikely. I suggest rethinking your process and watch this video.http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=3286686859329905674

My garbage bags are in my pantry and my garbage is in a cuboard under the sink ,but anyway i didnt use the same place for both innoculations ,first time i was at my friends house second time at my house and both times the exact same thing happened PRs come out fine ,B+ gets cobweb and red mold ,EQ gets green mold.Even if it a syringe i will still always order from ralph hes got the best selection and can ship to me faster than anyone else.

it sounds like the contam prolly came from either your jars, or your needle to me
wash out your jars really well with a 1-10 bleach/water solution remember to flame your needle well! don't melt the plastic thingy :-P
i don't see anything wrong with using a pint jar i've ONLY used pint jars for my cakes, and never had a contam i highly doubt the size of your jar is the reason for your contams are you remembering to cover with foil? you should try for a 100% sterile technique use 100% while innoc'n, then transport them only in their sterile incubator (the one you shoulda sprayed your watered down bleach solution in<very fine mist> and let dry) to the pre-sprayed closet or something, spray the closet regularly, check your jars only after spraying well
bleach is your friend (as long as you keep your mycelia safe from it), PERFECT your sterile technique, over look nothing and keep on trying
i have an EQ cake growing in a pint jar if you guys seriously think the size of the jar matters

Wow so youve only ever used pints i guess you can tell me how long on average im gonna half to wait before i can birth these cakes ,i can be kinda impatient sometimes so im gonna try and knock up a couple of 1/4pints i figure they should only take about two weeks to colonize

with multispore it all depends on how many precious CC's you shoot up your cake with
my personal fav way to do it, is to use 2 innoc points and squirt 1 cc to the left and right of each point, using about a third of the syringe if done that way, i've had them colonize in under 3 weeks
if done with less, which i've also done, i've seen them not grow for almost 2-3 weeks, then start and colonize in under 3 (odd but happened with one batch, i don't think it was the jar, probably the syringe)
but with less i've also seen them colonize in under 3 weeks
less being like 2 cc's total in the jar
one thing i will say against the pint jars is that they seem to stall when they get to the bottom pretty consistently this is easily solved by flipping the jar and mocking birth inside the jar
the mycelia usually takes that little bit of FAE and finishes colonizing in a matter of days
though i don't advise it for risk of contams i usually flip mine when they are about 75% done and the other 25% is colonized in like 3-4 days with mycelia bursting through the center of the uncolonized area and helping finish the job
i like the pint jars mostly because i break the cakes up and case them so i can take prints and such and it provides alot of substrate
but also the only cakes i've ever fruited were pint jars like i said and after about 3-4 flushes of remarkably healthy mushrooms the cake had shrank so much that it would easily fit in a half pint jar and it still fruited weakly before being retired
i just think that the bigger the cake, the longer it'll last (i've fruited a single cake for almost 2 months, maybe more)
