can indoor contam cause death

After reading lots of posts most said that the most the average household contaminations can do is make you sick.I would like to know if this is true for the simple reason I had some shrooms growing recently out of a myco bag that were very deformed looking compared to previous flushes.Although these shrooms turned out to be awesome the fact I had the fear that I could die (and still gambled mind you) has me paronoid of the next batch that look funky. If shrooms at all smelled bad I wouldn't eat them, but is that enough to save from death from indoor shrooms?I know alot of newbies out there wonder the samething and I'd appreciate an answer.I know to alot of you exeperienced growers this probably sounds stupid but please relieve some fears or reinstill them.I know outdoor unknow or uncertain shrooms can be deadly but what about normal smelling deformed looking shrooms? All serious input is very welcomed thank you.

I remember reading that shrooms grown in bags often get rather gnarly and deformed. It's just the nature of the beast. If it's got stuff growing on it, except for white mycellium, it probably is a contam. And of course if your mycellium is turning any other color than white, excpet for blue brusing, and the slight yellowing from water damge, toss it. Better to be safe than sorry man. If in doubt, dont eat it.

There are bacterias and contaminates that can cause serious harm/death. It's not something to mess around with. I have heard that most mushrooms seem to be gnarly and deformed when grown is bags. (I haven't grown in bags, that is only what I have read). So what you have is probably normal. What I can tell you, is that if you get cotaminated jars or casings, it's best to just throw them out. Your health isn't something to gamble with when trying to get high. Look at the thread in the contamination forum about the guy that almost died. It definately does not sound like a good time to me. If you have something that is questionable or doesn't smell right, toss it. Bottom line. -Bruiser

I feel so stupid to ask these questions but I don't care how I sound be cause it's my life and I thank you guys for not making light of this situationh. To all of us newbies besides smelling bad what can be another definite tell tale sign of not just contams but really dangerous contams? My myco bag(that I already have eaten had a mess of defored shrooms scraped together and they turned a bluish-gray color-supposedly bruising)The thing that I was worried about(and still am) is it was the P.R. strain and the caps are small and usually like a yellow-gold color. In this deformity that everyone said was safe was bigger(P.R. caps are narow) and the color was the same as flesh of the shroom. What worries me is how easily can these things turn deadly? From what I understand is if the whole medium turns white(mycelium) then contams are almost impossible,is this correct?I hate to sound over paronoid and I'm sorry if I'm coming off like a pussy but could you experts put as much important info as you can for us novices and reccomend the best book I can order to help identify my fears. This site does a great job but then you read a post from this dude his name is doktor dung and as far as a newbie(like nyself knows he's an expert) talks about contaminations indoors are no worse then moldy bread and this talk scares us into believing that its a hit and miss situation. If it's that bad indoors then shit outdoors odds are against us.Can anyone show me a proven way(sight, smell, and taste) to know I'll live for another day? Thanks

If it colonized in the bag to 100%, and you did not open the bag until picking time, I would say the deformities are just caused from them growing in the bags themselves. I found it to be very difficult to contaminate a cake after it is fully colonized, especially the myco-bag cakes. If it is contaminated before 100% colonization, the bags just seem to cease doing anything and you will get a smell emitting from the filter patch.
These have been my observations, yours may be different.

Ruiner, no offense but you are just paranoid. Relax, if you were going to die, you would know it by now. If you were so worried about them being contaminated, why did you proceed to eat them? Sorry, but that was stupid on your part. Like everyone has said, Myco Bags and shit make shrooms grow deformed. And most likely, if there wasnt anything growing on them and/or there was a bad smell coming from the bag then changes are they were fine. Plus, you would've most likely gotten sick not too long after eating them.
