Gymnopilus species?

I found this specimen last winter. After reading some recent posts, I was wondering whether it could be an active Gym. Unfortunately, I don't remember all the details. Here's my best ID request:
Habitat: Napa, CA foothills. Primarily Oaks and wild grass. Substrate: rotting log. Stem: central, fibrillose. Gills: orange, adnate or slightly decurrent. Spore print: orange. Cap: pale tannish-orange with small brownish-red scales.
I did not taste the specimen and I did not notice any bruising, although I did not look closely as I was under the impression that there were no active Gyms in California. Could this be an active Gymnopilus luteofolius?

Thanks!

Doesn't look like the luteofolius that I find, but it could well be. I would say maybe spectabilis. Gymn's don't really bruise much but look for some greening anywhere (could be in the cap, but usually is on the outside and inside of the stem).

I wish this was a recent find, but it was from last season. I stumbled across a few of these but didn't realize they could be active. I didn't look for them last year, but I won't repeat that mistake.

It takes a large amount to trip and they don't have a mild taste... But it's all I can find so it's what I use.

I do think they are G. luteofolius.
Some specimens lose their red/purple tones with age, as you can see in this collection of G. luteofolius:

Stupid me. I idn't enlarge the picture so I thought the caps were smooth, but upon enlarging they definitely seem close to luteofolius.

Yes, it was the specimen on the left that reminded me of this find. Thanks for the good information.
Now, can you just tell me where you found hundreds of these last year?
