Hey guys, I have looked through the guides but i can't find a proper way to birth 1/2 pint brf cakes. I know you should soak in water but i heard it is better to put in a fridge. and if putting in the fridge is best, how long should i leave them in it for? also if there is a faq on this already just let me know.

as stated numerous times, psilocybe cubensis is a sub-tropical strain that does not benefit from cold shocking, and thus will only be delayed due to the sudden coldness.
dunking is fine, just store them in a cool, dry, draft free place, not your fridge.

I never said I put it in the fridge to cold shock it... although that is what ends up happning.
I just do it to dunk it, but since the room temp around where I live gets goes in the triple digits sometimes, I figured the fridge is the best cool, draft free place I have... either that or i could replace the water with cooler water 3-4 times whil i am dunking.... which is a lot more work..

Its starting to cool down now ....but about 2-3 weeks ago ..yes
I don't have central AC.. Just a window cooler. and my FC sit right in front of that.
Admitted that was a freak heat wave.. but still the norm was 85 to 95 F
but now its starting to cool down a bit. about 80-85

The question is interesting. I had always soaked my cakes in the fridge. I always did so because that is what the guides recommended and I always got good results when I would crumble them into casings. But is the refrigeration necessary or perhaps a hinder to mushroom growth? I always believed that the reason for refrigeration would be to slow contaminate growth, but recent post I have reviewed from truly expert mushroom growers suggest that contamination of mycelium covered cakes is every very small risk. So.........is the refrigeration a good idea?

Me too.
But on a side note... when I harvest the shrooms there are usually some pins (not aborts) that have already shown up. And I noticed that if I dunk it with them (taking care not to accidentally break them off), after the dunk they usually resume normal growth. although a few of them grew only a bit more and then the veil ripped.
Just though I would share.
