I might have messed up. PLZ Help
    #7396286 - 09/11/07 01:04 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I tried doing grains for my first time. I used regular organic rye grains that i purchased from Here.
I followed every step that RR shows in his DVD. I think my problem might have been that after pressure cooking the jars I waited about 3 to 4 days after to inoculate the jars. When I took the jars out of the PC they looked very hydrated and moist, but when i went to inoculate them they looked plumped but dry. As of right now it will have been 3 weeks on Friday since i have inoculated the jars.
I know it takes time and patients but I am very concerned because 2 out of 9 jars only show some signs of mycelium growth but not a whole lot.

Any advice guys & gals?

I don't think that is causing the slow colonization - although I can't absolutely rule it out. At this point I would let your vendor know about this and see if you couldn't get a replacement...it could have been a over diluted syringe.

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.
